Food Bank
The Mulegé Rotary Club got involved with the food bank in 2020 when the negative economic effects of Coronavirus had taken a big toll on the community. What started as a temporary assistance program became a permanent cause for the club when it became obvious that many people still needed the assistance despite the economy rebounding.
The Food Bank is overseen by the office of the Atención Ciudadana inside of the
Delegación Municipal.
With the support of the Rotary, the Food Bank is able to give out 50 pantry bags of non-perishables per month including basic staple items such as flour, sugar, oil rice and beans. In addition, vouchers of 100 pesos each are also distributed that can be redeemed in local grocery stores for perishable food items. In addition to food, clothing, hygiene items, school supplies, and medical equipment are available through the food bank.
The Food Bank benefits greatly from individuals’ donations of all of these items but is in particular need of both diapers and wet wipes for adults and children, as well as personal hygiene items. Items can be dropped off at the Atención Ciudadana office inside the Delegación Municipal building in Mulegé centro (see map below).
